When starting a new life in Australia, securing a “reliable car” is essential. We spoke with Hiro, who chose the Nissan Kicks e-POWER as the perfect partner to support his family of four. Choosing the Kicks: Criteria and Peace of Mind
Australia has many large SUVs. Why did you choose the Kicks, which is small SUV?
The parking situation around my workplace in Liverpool was a major factor. Finding a spot there is incredibly difficult, and street parking is a must, but the spaces are tiny. It’s the kind of environment that demands serious parking skills to squeeze your car into the smallest gap.
How does the size work in Sydney’s narrow streets and for street parking?
The Kicks’ size lets me slip right into tight spaces that bigger SUVs would have to give up on. This manoeuvrability is a huge help for my daily commute.
Daily Driving and e-POWER Hybrid Performance
Driving it every day, what are your thoughts on the e-POWER's fuel efficiency?
I drive 40km one way, so 80km round trip daily, and I’m amazed by the fuel efficiency. It sometimes achieves around 3.6 L/100km, which is incredibly economical.
Do you feel the benefits of the e-POWER's performance on Australian roads?
I definitely feel the benefits in terms of driving performance. Driving in Australia often involves more aggressive drivers than in Japan, and I sometimes encounter forced cut-ins and tailgating. The instantaneous power of the e-POWER means I can quickly accelerate when needed, maintaining a safe distance. This excellent acceleration gives me peace of mind for my safety.
Cargo Space and Family Utility
How is the storage capacity for a family of four when carrying large items?
Although it looks compact, the loading capacity was better than I expected. The biggest surprise was when I bought two Queen-sized rolled mattresses from IKEA. I thought, ‘There’s no way this will fit,’ but when I folded down the rear seats, both fit perfectly. My family and I were astonished.
What about for daily shopping or family outings?
Whether it’s a bulk shop at Costco or a family trip to the beach with four of us, we’ve never had trouble fitting everything in. The rear seats are also roomy, so the kids are comfortable.
Concerns about Purchasing an Imported Car
Did you have any concerns about buying an imported car from Japan (JDM)?
Initially, my only concern was the difficulty in finding a provider for Comprehensive Insurance. Some insurance companies rejected me because the car was an import.
How did Roundabout assist you with that problem?
When I spoke to Roundabout, they offered thoughtful support, including introducing me to insurance companies with which they had a history of successful sign-ups. Given the recommendation from my supervisor, I was able to trust them completely from start to finish.
